Q: How come chests require keys now? Is it because in DIABLO2 you need keys to open chests? How come they didnt give the RANGER class the ability to open chests W/O keys? Is this not a type of RPG?

everyone knows that in all rpgs, rangers dont need keys to open chests.

i think if you do any reading about the chests at all, you will find the answers.

Planescape torment, final fantasy1-12, Fallout, Diablo 2, Grandia 2, Wildarms,

do i have to list every rpg where rangers cannot open chests without keys?

if everquest sets the standard for rpgs, we are royaly screwed.

I beg to differ, everquest is a very good game <except for their levelling system, they've nailed a perfect 10.0, imho>

But yes, you're right. Keys people. And We now require keys <since obviously you've been away> to open almost every chest. With the exception of pre-searing, almost all post-searing chests/containers requires a key to unlock now, sorry to burst your bubble. But now, the items that can be either very sick, or newbish. It's like opposite ends of the spectrum

The requirement for keys and the near complete randomization of chest locations = bots got screwed

Ahhh... I was going to ask why they made it so that you needed keys. Didn't even think about farmer-bots. I'm still new at this whole thing... where do you get said keys?

Merchants will sell keys specifically named to the area you'll be in:

i.e. Ascalon Keys, Krytan Keys, Shiverspeak Keys etc.

We obviously have two very different viewpoints, no sense arguing till kingdom come. But, I still think the storyline was enticing, the quests were cool, zones, everything, was unique. But as I said; The levelling core sucked hardcore, sitting there for 6+months to earn a single level post 55. <I didn't play hardcore, like most, I was a casual gamer like I am on GW>

But still, it's not for this thread. And NO, I'm NOT comparing GW to EQ, or anything, I still feel it is a good game.

I think EQ is one of the best games, I like its leveling system, because it shows that it takes hard work to get to lvl 45+. Also it has good economy I think, because its hard to get platnium, so you can tell who is a newbie and who is not, by the amount of money they have. The best things I like about everquest is that EVERYONE is in that zone, its not seprate zones like guild wars, when you go into the battlefield everyone is in that area is there. And that you can TRAIN mobs to other groups, I enjoy doing that!

Well back to the chests. So they made the key requirement just for the sake of farming bots? That sucks, they should have just had the random chest in each zone. However, I allways got a purple item or better in a chest, so in your opinion is it worth buying a key?

Lol, are you implying all rangers are thieves? I think in GW it's mesmers who should open the chest without keys. They are illusionists, or in a another word, magicians. They can make the lock disappear in a puff of smoke.

No, it's not worth to buy keys to open those chests. I still get gold drops from monsters every now and then. The key to chest is like gambling in diablo 2. Most often you get an item worths far less than your key.

If you're worried about losing a little bit of gold taking a chance on opening a chest, what you can do is wait until someone else opens it first.. If its a purple item, dont bother; if they get a gold, use a key, and you will get a gold item too. IMO the purple items are almost certainly less than the worth of the key, but a random gold item is well worth the price.

I think that there should be a ranger specific item; such as a lockpick, that allows rangers to open chests without using a key. In a number of games i have played, rangers were a cross between the rogue/thief type class and a wilderness survival type class. The lockpicks should have a limited use (such as identification and salvage kits) and should be adjusted in price accordingly; probably in comparison to the identification and salvage kits. Thanks -

Glap.

i know i came of as anti EQ, i dont really have anything against EQ, however, it's an mmorpg, NO mmorpg, including guild wars, should set the standerd for rpgs. in my opinion. normal computer rpgs are a far enough cry from true rps...

that's what i meant.
also, i have never player everquest, and it's the first i have ever heard of rangers not needing keys...

most of the higher level chests(desert and up), are worth it imo. FoW and UW most definatley. i got a gold bow the other day in FoW...it is quite nice. if rangers didnt need keys, i can only imagine the sudden uprising of rangers in pre-sear...eeek...the world would be overun with rangers trying to get ascended and out farming chests...

assassins are more inclined to kill stuff, while rangers, are more closer to rouges which open chests, and thief material.

I dont think a lot of people will switch to ranger, because your limited to 4 characters, I am sure people have maxed it out already.

i dont think rangers, denizens of nature and the wild, are all about stealing things and the technology involved in locks and lockpicking.
